An Air India flight en route to Bali was forced to turn back mid-air on Wednesday following reports of a volcanic eruption near the destination airport. Flight AI2145, which took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, returned safely with all passengers disembarking without incident.In an official statement, an Air India spokesperson confirmed “Air India flight AI2145, on 18 June 2025 from Delhi to Bali, was advised to return to Delhi due to reports of volcanic eruption near the destination airport Bali, in the interest of safety.The disruption was linked to the eruption of Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano in the eastern part of the country. Full refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling has also been offered to them if opted,” the statement added.This latest setback adds to a series of operational challenges facing the airline. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a press release on Tuesday that, Air India cancelled 83 wide-body aircraft services between June 12 and 17 — 66 of which involved Boeing 787s.
