Late Ms. Saineeta Chakravarti, also called Pinky, was 35 and one of the cabin crew members of the AI 171 flight, a 787 Boeing Dreamliner, who lost her life. Saineeta was from Mumbai’s Juhu Koliwada area and was one of the most dedicated flight attendants who passed away in the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12, 2025. Saineeta’s body arrived at her Mumbai home for the last rites, and her family stood there bereaved.

Locals came in large numbers outside Saineeta’s home to pay their last respects. She was one of the 10 cabin crew members who had her duty on the ill-fated Air India aircraft which crashed on June 12, 2025. Saineeta’s mother broke down seeing her daughter never return to life. The pictures depicted Saineeta’s body being taken for the last rites. Her family members cried a river, stood in shock as the sole breadwinner of her family, Saineeta, left all of a sudden. Saineeta’s mother, who was completely broken, was not in a good frame of mind.
Saineeta’s mother broke down, sat on the floor, cried profusely, and was consoled by Saineeta’s near and dear family and friends. According to a report by MidDay, Saineeta’s neighbours described her as a kind, soft-spoken lady who was down to Earth. Saineeta had recently joined the team at Air India and earlier was working with Go Air. Saineeta’s flight could never reach London as it nosedived into a medical college in Ahmedabad, exploding in a ball of flame.

For Saineeta’s mom, her loss is irreplaceable. However, Saineeta’s friends had called her a hardworking and ambitious lady. She had studied at Manekji Cooper Education Trust School and also did her further education from Mithibai College, Vile Parle, Mumbai. Saineeta was dedicated to her work as a cabin crew member and was known for her warmth, leaving behind traces of memories in the minds of people she touched. Saineeta has left behind her mom, Rema, dad, Abin and also her younger sister who is married.

Ahmedabad has seen one of the worst aviation accidents in recent times. Rescue operations have been of top priority as families grapple with the trauma of the sudden loss of their loved ones. Saineeta’s family is still in disbelief, according to a report by ETimes. Her parents are being consoled by Saineeta’s friends and neighbours. Her mother had shared:
“Please give me one day. Let her come home first. She’s not gone. She is still there, taking care of both of us -me and her father.”

Saineeta’s mother still thinks that her daughter will walk into the home any time, as she had clutched a picture of her daughter in an Air India uniform. Saineeta’s mother was consoled by the relatives, but memories of her daughter haunt her. The mother, whose pain is unmatched, shared how her daughter, Saineeta, always dreamt of flying and made her family proud. She was the perfect daughter who used to call her parents, check on them before every flight. Saineeta’s mom shared:
“She would always check about our health before leaving for the airport. Even if her shift started at 4 in the morning. She would say, ‘Ma, you always take care of me. Let me do the same for you sometimes.”
