Aamir Khan comes from a family with a Bollywood legacy. His uncle, Nasir Hussain, was a popular film director who made the films, Yaadon Ki Baraat and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The first was Aamir’s debut film as a child artist, and the latter marked his debut as a lead. However, most people are unaware of his father and film producer, Tahir Hussain. Recently, Aamir talked about his father’s career as a producer and how his family went through a tough time due to his loans.
Aamir Khan said that his father wasn’t a good businessman
Talking about his father’s financial struggles, Aamir Khan said in a Zoom interview that Tahir Hussain was a film producer but not a good businessman. Even though his films did well, Tahir was not able to make money, the actor said. Aamir stated that his father wasn’t good with the business side of things. He said in the interview:
“My father, Abba Jaan, was a film producer, but unfortunately, he was never able to earn much money. Even though his films were successful, I think he wasn’t very strong in the business side of things. “
Moreover, Aamir Khan revealed that the particular era of making a film was very different. Since a lot of film business was conducted on black money and cash statements were not properly maintained. Hence even if his father’s films did well and became successful, he wasn’t paid. In his own words, he said:
“That era was also different—there was a lot of business done in black money, and proper cash statements were rarely maintained. So, even when his films did well, he never really got paid.”

Aamir Khan explained how his father was stuck in a financial trap
Aamir Khan talked about a very difficult period of his childhood when his father, Tahir Hussain, was stuck in a financial trap. The producer would borrow a lot of money to produce films. But the actors in the film would be unable to give him more dates, and the shoot would be incomplete. To even finish the film, he would need more money, but his previous creditors would demand the loan back. Aamir Khan said about this cycle:
“We went through a very difficult phase growing up. My father had borrowed a lot of money to produce films. But then, actors weren’t giving him dates to complete the shoot, which left him stuck. He couldn’t finish the film without more money, and those he had borrowed from started demanding their money back.”
Aamir Khan and his siblings would pick up the phone sometimes when creditors called
Aamir Khan and his three siblings, one brother and two sisters, were also children like him during this time, but sometimes they picked up the phone when the creditors called. The actor said that they had all grown up listening to creditors say on the phone that they wanted their money back. Aamir also said that a lot of times, people assumed that since they belonged to a film producer’s family, they would be rich, but that was not the case at all. Recalling those 8-9 years, Aamir said:
“It was very tough for the entire family.”
