June 12, 2025, was another darkest day in Indian history, as it took away a lot of innocent lives. For the unversed, the Air India 171 crash in Ahmedabad reportedly took away 265 innocent lives. According to multiple reports, the plane was carrying 230 passengers, 10 crew members and 2 pilots, which crashed shortly after takeoff into the residential quarters of BJ Medical College hostel. As per a report by NDTV, at least five MBBS students lost their lives in the horrific crash. Now, a Gujarat-based founder of NGO, Yuva Unstoppable paid tribute to one of his scholarship students, Rakesh Digora, a third-year medical student of BJ Medical College, who lost his life in the horrific AI171 crash.

Amitabh Shah, a Gujarat-based founder of NGO, Yuva Unstoppable, paid tribute to Rakesh Digora, a third-year student of BJ Medical and one of Amitabh’s scholarship students. According to a report by Manorama Online, Rakesh hailed from Sosiya village in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He was just 20 and was very brilliant in his studies. His parents worked in fields, and he was their only hope. The horrific crash took away Rakesh’s life, when he was having lunch in the hostel mess. Paying his tribute to Rakesh, Amitabh wrote:
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news that one of our Yuva Unstoppable’s Scholarship students, Rakesh Diyora, studying at BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad (the building the Air India plane crashed into), was a victim of the recent tragedy. He was a 3rd-year medical student from Bhavnagar and was unfortunately present at the hostel at the time of the plane crash. He was eating food in the Mess area when this happened. Heartbreaking, Om Shanti! Let us all pray for peace for Rakesh’s soul. May his family find strength and comfort in this incredibly difficult time.”
Amitabh also mentioned that five other scholarship students from his NGO have been admitted to the ICU. He wished for their speedy recovery. Addressing the same, Amitabh wrote:
“Additionally, 5 of our scholarship students are currently admitted in the ICU. There maybe many more. We request you all to keep them in your thoughts and prayers for their speedy and complete recovery.”

On June 12, 2025 afternoon, an Air India flight took off from the Ahmedabad airport to fly from Ahmedabad to London, carrying 242 people, including passengers, pilots and cabin crew members. But within minutes, the AI171 crashed into the BJ Medical College. Later, Air India confirmed the death of 241 people on board, with only one survivor. Former Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani was among the people who lost their lives in the terrifying crash. In a tragic turn of events, the Ahmedabad plane crash has cost 265 innocent lives, including 52 UK residents. In connection to the tragic incident, the British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, reacted to the same. Taking to her X handle (formerly Twitter), Lindy wrote:
“I met with Prime Minister @narendramodi this morning. We shared condolences in the face of this tragic accident, and I offered my thanks for the work of tireless first responders here in Ahmedabad. The U.K. and India are working together to establish the facts.”
