Known for his rooted performances and understated brilliance on screen, Pankaj Tripathi recently revealed another side to his personality on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, produced by Gautam Thakker Films. The actor, celebrated for roles in Mirzapur, Gangs of Wasseypur, and OMG 2, opened up about his love for cooking, the soul-stirring experiences of travel, and the role of art in shaping one’s identity.
Pankaj Tripathi on travel, cooking and the soul of art: “These experiences refine your sensibilities”
In a candid moment during the interview, Tripathi shared his fondness for the kitchen. “Yes, I like to cook. I cook Turai sabzi very well, I add only salt, meethi and haldi in it, that’s all, I avoid spices. I can also cook Dal Rice and Bihari Dishes very well,” he revealed, offering a glimpse into his simple, homegrown culinary preferences. While cooking may seem like a surprising passion for a Bollywood actor, for Tripathi, it’s yet another form of mindful living—a recurring theme in his worldview. The conversation soon moved to self-discovery and how travel has been instrumental in shaping his perspective.
“Travel is not merely an act of leisure but an awakening, an essential ingredient in broadening one’s horizons and understanding life beyond the familiar,” he said, when asked what advice he would give to someone who aspired to become like the younger version of himself. “Every city, every culture has a rhythm. When you immerse yourself in that rhythm, your perspective shifts—your empathy expands,” he added, reflecting his deeply philosophical outlook on life.
Tripathi also stressed the importance of immersing oneself in the arts, urging the youth to explore literature, theatre, music festivals, and other forms of live performance. According to him, these are not just experiences—they are pivotal to one’s personal evolution. “These experiences refine your sensibilities. They shape your identity, nurture your creativity, and offer you a passport into the soulful depth of humanity,” he shared.
As Pankaj Tripathi continues to bring layered and nuanced characters to the screen, his off-screen persona remains just as enriching – rooted in simplicity, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the world around him.
Meanwhile, on the work commitment, the actor is gearing up for the release of Metro In Dino where he will be seen alongside Konkana Sen Sharma. The multi-starrer, directed by Anurag Basu, is expected to hit cinemas on July 4.
