Karan Johar has returned to the OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video, with the Hindi adaptation of the American show, The Traitors. The show premiered on June 12, 2025, and promises a complicated series with dark drama with twists at every corner. The drama features some of the well-known names in the entertainment industry. However, a question that has not left the netizens’ mind is whether the series is worth a watch.

    The Traitors review

Karan Johar has returned to his seat as a host with the series, The Traitors. The first episode introduces the star-studded cast. However, the internal meet and greet are not as simple as one would have thought. The celebrities, including content creators, actors and an astrologist, are welcomed into a lavish palace, where they are divided into two teams, ‘Innocents’ and ‘Traitors’. Karan picks three ‘traitors’ in the first episode and sets the ball rolling, with ‘innocents’ carrying the burden to identify the ‘traitor’ to secure extra points, the first episode has already knocked the drama off.

While there is a lot of information to process, with The Traitor being an entirely different show and game for the contestants and the viewers, the format can be categorised as similar to most Indian reality shows and involves scandalous statements. However, as the quest for the ‘traitor’ begins, it’s definitive that the show will get more interesting. Laced with dark and intense politics, fun, perception and powerplay, the show might score a place with the audience. Nonetheless, there are a few drawbacks for the desi fans. Despite being a Hindi adaptation of an American show, the contestants prefer to speak in English.

The language barrier might become a drawback for the desi entertainment lovers, who prefer the rawness of Hindi. The lingual difference might also cage the series to the elite audience only, not being as attractive to the Tier 2 and 3 subscribers of the platform. Furthermore, some might feel like the show is a reprised version of Bigg Boss, Roadies or any other typical reality show, but more will only be revealed as further episodes for the series are released. While the participants might not be 100 per cent, Karan Johar’s dialogues will certainly keep the audience engaged with his exaggerated, overdramatic and unintentionally hilarious persona.

Netizens first reaction to The Traitors

Netizens were not far behind in sharing what they thought of the show and expressed the same on social media. Taking to Instagram, a user penned, “Amazing…it got me stuck to the TV until I finished off 3 episodes..unfortunately 4th episode is a paid one…What a series man!!!” A comment read, “Was okay, but not the best though….still this gonna keep us entertained until next Bigg Boss.” Some users also took to X and shared their views on the show. A user wrote, “#TheTraitors is a nice watch..Not entirely another Roadies or Bigg Boss..some fresh element to it ..packed with drama and mind games..Super amazing lineup…Nearly entire cast are big known faces.. #TheTraitorsOnPrime.” A comment could be read as stating:

“Anyone who watches this will just waste their time. I don’t want to generalise, folks, but it’s no better than a Big Boss. I would say even worse based on whatever teasers I have seen so far. I am honestly amazed who green-lit these shows. #TheTraitors.”
