The AI171 crash on June 12, 2025, left several families in tears and heartbroken. 229 passengers, 12 crew members, and several trainee doctors in the building the flight crashed on had their dreams, aspirations, and lives cut short. It only took a few minutes for a happy journey to turn into a nightmare. Amid that, the story of a family has surfaced online, leaving the entire country in tears.
Dr Pratik Joshi and his family lost their lives in the AI171 crash
Air India flight, AI171 – Boeing Dreamliner, was carrying the dreams of the Joshi-Vyas family on them. Dr Pratik Joshi, his wife, Dr Komi Vyas and their three young children sat onboard an Air India flight, filled with dreams, aspirations and the joy of finally ending the distance of six years when the tragedy took away their lives. The family hailed from Rajasthan’s Banswara and Udaipur and was moving to London to start their lives anew after Dr Pratik spent the past six years making sure that everything was set for their family’s arrival.
Dr Pratik Joshi had been living in London for six years, building a career and future for himself and his family. His wife, Dr Komi Vyas, was a respected physician at Pacific Hospital located in Udaipur, Rajasthan. She had resigned from her position only two days before the journey and was ready to relocate and reunite their family for good. For the unversed, the couple shared three children: two boys, Nakul and Pradyut, who were both five years old and a daughter, Miraya, who was eight. According to a report from NDTV, a spokesperson from Pacific Hospital said:
“Komi had quit her job recently to join her husband in London.”
In conversation with News18, their neighbours and friends referred to the doctor couple as not only professionally accomplished but also warm, humble and progressive in nature. A close friend of the family told the publication that the couple wanted the best for their children and, hence, had decided to shift abroad. They expressed their grief and stated:
“The entire town is grieving.”

Dr Joshi-Vyas’ last family selfie
What is further heartbreaking is that the family’s final photograph, taken on board the ill-fated Boeing Dreamliner, showed the parents smiling across the aisle from their children, their beaming faces are filled with excitement and dreams for a better tomorrow. However, now it acts as a horrid reminder of how fragile life can be. The Joshi-Vyas family is among the hundred other families whose dreams were ripped apart in the tragedy.
What happened on Air India AI171?
According to aviation experts, Air India AI171 was in the air for 32 seconds before the pilots lost control and the flight began to descend. Witnesses have also reported seeing the aircraft struggling to gain altitude. Another report has revealed that early findings suggest that the engine may have failed to generate enough thrust, resulting in the crash. The plane was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members on a routine flight to London’s Gatwick Airport. Later in an official statement, Air India confirmed the news of the crash and that there was only one survivor in the incident, who is currently being treated in the hospital.
