Actor Karisma Kapoor is mourning the untimely demise of her former husband, businessman and industrialist Sunjay Kapur, who passed away on Thursday in London. As per initial reports, Kapur suffered a heart attack while playing polo, a sport he was known to be passionate about. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across both business and entertainment circles.

Late Thursday night, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan were seen arriving at Karisma Kapoor’s Mumbai residence to be by her side during this difficult time. A video shared by paparazzi showed the couple entering the building, reportedly to extend their support to Karisma and her family.
The news of Sunjay Kapur’s death was confirmed by his friend and noted author Suhel Seth, who took to social media to share the loss. “Deeply saddened at the passing of Sunjay Kapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar… Om Shanti,” Seth wrote.
Just hours before his passing, Sunjay had posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad. His tweet read, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.” The tweet has since been widely shared by those expressing disbelief at the sudden loss.
Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur married in 2003 and are parents to two children—daughter Samaira and son Kiaan. Their marriage ended in 2013 after a prolonged legal battle, with the divorce being finalized in 2016. Following their separation, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev in 2017. The couple has a son named Azarias.
Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a prominent name in the automotive technology space. Despite leading a life away from the media glare in recent years, his links to the Kapoor family and past presence at high-profile events ensured continued public interest.
The Kapoor family has not yet issued an official statement. However, sources close to the family have shared that Karisma is currently spending time with her children, surrounded by close friends and relatives.
