Just a day after announcing his international retirement, Nicholas Pooran has been named as the captain of the MI New York team for the upcoming season of the Major League Cricket. Pooran announced his shock retirement from all formats of the game for West Indies at the age of 29 on June 10.
Pooran played a pivotal role in New York’s title win in the first edition of MLC, when he scored a blistering 137 not out in the final against Seattle Orcas. The 29-year-old played a total of 61 ODIs and 106 T20Is for the West Indies team before announcing his retirement.

Nicholas Pooran – the 29-year-old pocket dynamite, aka the MINY superstar – has been named the MI New York captain ahead of the 2025 season of the Cognizant Major League Cricket. This left-handed wicket-keeper batter is one of the world’s most feared batters going around. At the peak of his powers currently, he’s all set to take us to greater glories under his leadership. He was the highest run-scorer in the 2023 MLC season with 388 runs under his belt. You really don’t need to look beyond his 137* at the MLC Final to know that. Can’t wait to relive the same in 2025, Nicky!” read the statement from MI New York.
MI New York will start their campaign in the MLC on June 13 against the Texas Super Kings.
