Sonam Raghuvanshi and her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, are the prime accused who plotted the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, Sonam’s husband. Sonam and Raja had gone to Meghalaya, which was all planned by Raj and her. Now, both the jilted lovers have been taken into police custody. Sonam, involved in the sensational murder case, surrendered from a dhaba at the Varanasi Ghazipur Highway located in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. According to a new report, Sonam broke down when she saw Raj on the video call.
Did Sonam Raghuvanshi break down seeing her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, on the video call?
Prestone Tynsong, who is the Deputy CM of Meghalaya, according to a report by Nai Duniya, shared that Raj Kushwaha was not in the state as he was handling the murder from outside. Raj did confess to having an affair with Sonam, and the report suggested he denied involvement in the murder of her husband. Separate statements from Sonam and Raj were then taken. When the officers arranged for a video call, Sonam kept running away from the questions, but when the camera was turned to Raj, she went blank, broke down and then admitted to the murder. Sonam was not in the right frame of mind and condition to give a statement. The report also mentioned that Sonam did try her best to show herself as a victim and also act helpless.
Sonam Raghuvanshi did not take the help of a guide to come down from the trek of 3,000 steps
According to a report by the Free Press Journal, a local guide named Bhakupar Wansai claimed that Sonam did not take the offer of coming down the return trek of 3,000 steps from the famous Double Decker Living Root Bridge located in the dense forest of Nongriat village. As seen in the recent CCTV clip, the pair was seen leaving their belongings at a hotel located in Sohra. Sonam was then seen chatting on her phone with someone and keeping a safe distance from Raja, who was busy with the luggage. The three men arrested were involved in the killing of Raja, as pointed out by the Meghalaya police. It was on May 22, 2025, when Wansai went with the couple and shared:
“I asked if they planned to return the same day, and Sonam said they would stay overnight at Nongriat. I offered to guide them back the next day, but she said she knew the route.”

When an astrologer told Sonam Raghuvanshi’s father that she had left home during an inauspicious time
Sonam’s father, since his daughter disappeared, had consulted an astrologer who shared that Sonam and Raja left during an inauspicious time. He shared with the publication that his daughter was to leave home on June 5, 2025, but it was on May 21, 2025, when he found his son, Govind, with a bag in his hand took Sonam away. Sonam’s dad shared:
“Sonam left without informing anyone and planned a trip despite no muhurat (auspicious time) for leaving home. After marriage, one isn’t supposed to leave the house for a month and a half. I had even consulted a priest and fixed June 5 as the auspicious date for her formal departure from our home.”
