Prosenjit Chatterjee is an actor and producer. He is regarded as one of the leading actors of modern Bengali cinema. The actor is the son of Bollywood veteran, Biswajit Chatterjee. While he has been in the industry since he was a little kid, and his trajectory in the industry has been on the high-ups, his personal life has faced some big issues.
Prosenjit Chatterjee recalls being depressed after separation from Debashree Roy
Prosenjit Chatterjee was married to fellow actor, Debashree Roy, but the two parted ways shortly after tying the knot. While short-lived, their separation impacted the actor immensely. Now, in a recent interview with Times Now, Prosenjit opened up about the difficult phase following their separation. The actor revealed that he slipped into a depression and began working less during that period.
During the conversation, Prosenjit revealed that there was a time when he was not working a lot. He added that he was in a depressive state and was not working properly. The actor shared that while they blamed each other at the time, he now understands that they were young at the time. He further stated how when most leading newspapers were out with pointers of actors of Bengal, his name was nowhere in the top ten. He was quoted as saying:
“Ek samay aaya tha, mai kaam kam kar raha tha. I was in a little depressed mood, I was not doing proper work. We blamed each other, but we were young at that time. After that separation, I was in a place where I was not coming out. And amid this, the most leading newspaper in Bengal came out with pointers of actors of Bengal. Usme 1-10 tk me mera naam nahi tha, and I was going through that depression mode.”
Prosenjit Chatterjee on dealing with his depression
In the same conversation, Prosenjit recalled how he dealt with the situation. He revealed that the day he came back, he signed nine films. He added that his characteristics are such that he doesn’t see any point in showing emotions. He shared that everyone has their space, and for him, it was his garden. He was quoted as saying:
“The day I came back to the set, I signed nine films. It is not me, it is my blessing. Mera characteristic is aisa hai. I feel there’s no point in showing emotions. But everyone has a space of their own — I have a small garden, and that’s my space. I don’t talk to anybody. Those 30 days were important for me to reconnect with myself. There’s no use in crying.”
About Prosenjit Chatterjee and Debashree Roy’s relationship
Prosenjit Chatterjee and Debashree Roy had known each other since childhood; their friendship soon turned into something more and manifested itself in a marriage. However, that was short-lived. After their separation, Prosenjit found love again with Aparna Guha Thakurta, with whom he shares a daughter, Prerona Chatterjee. However, his second marriage too eventually ended in divorce.

On the work front, Prosenjit was last seen in the Netflix series Khakee: The Bengal Chapter. He will next be seen in the movie, Maalik, which also stars Manushi Chhillar and Medha Shankr in key roles. The gangster action thriller, directed by Pulkit, is scheduled to be released in theatres on July 11, 2025.
