Aamir Khan takes a dig at OTT release culture

In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, Aamir opened up about how the new trend of OTT releases hampered the business of theatre releases. The actor also shared that he strongly believes that a good film should be seen only on big screens. Aamir also shed light on the rise of the OTT platforms, which have hampered many films to perform well at the box office. He also explained the current situation with the help of the ‘famine and feast’ model, where some films are doing well, while others are not. Aamir was quoted as saying:

“I don’t know any business where you offer your product, and if someone doesn’t buy it, you tell them—don’t worry, I’ll drop it at your house for free in eight weeks. It doesn’t make sense to me. That’s the reason many films aren’t doing well in theatres.”

Aamir Khan regrets the quick OTT release of Laapataa Ladies

In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, Aamir Khan shared how he regrets the quick release of Laapataa Ladies on OTTs. He also shared that if the film had not gone to Netflix, it would have been a great success. Aamir said that a box office collection gives a clear picture of how a film has actually performed. In his words:

“Ultimately, it’s the box office that gives you a very definite yardstick. The box office is unemotional. It clearly tells you how much a film has earned, and it’s a fairly accurate measure. I believe Laapataa Ladies would have done really well in theatres if it hadn’t premiered on Netflix just eight weeks later. The word of mouth was so strong. According to me, if it hadn’t gone to Netflix so soon, it would have been a huge success.”
