Snakeskin shoes have made a comeback to the forefront of fashion. From luxury collections to the feet of celebrities, the reptilian pattern is back to pack a venomous punch as the foundation of a warm weather outfit.

A variety of stars and their stylists have certainly embraced the trend this spring season, with Sarah Jessica Parker wearing Jimmy Choo boots in Paris while promoting “And Just Like That” and Michael B. Jordan donning Second/Layer boots while promoting “Sinners” in New York City.

A number of brands are offering the style, from Miu Miu putting reptilian sneakers on the fall 2025 runway in March (“Anora” actor Mark Eydelshteyn is a fan) to Argent and Margaux dropping a collaborative capsule for springtime featuring a ballet flat with embossed python. Not to mention Nike getting in on the trend with a new Air Max style and forthcoming Kobe sneakers for fall 2025.

Stylist Leon Gray, who works with Malika Andrews and Abby Phillip, provided his take on why the reptilian look is good for warm weather and how it fits into the popular color scheme of our current moment: “A python shoe feels like the summer alternative to leopard for me. It has the same characteristic of being an ‘approachable’ print but with a lightness that’s perfect for summer palettes. Plus, it works especially well with this season’s butter yellow, icy blue and powder pink trends.”

While in Paris in late May, Parker attended a photo call for the third season of “And Just Like That,” the “Sex and the City” reboot that employs costume designers Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago, wearing a mauve Vivienne Westwood dress with Jimmy Choo‘s The Boot, 2000, which showcases a colorway of dark yellow and blue hues.

Rogers wants to believe a certain superstar is connected to the popularity of snakeskin, commenting to FN, “I’m going to pretend that the current snakeskin fever has something to do with ‘Cowboy Carter’ because I love Beyoncé. She’s the root of everything fab.…Well, she and Carrie are.”

For the record, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter’s up-and-coming model nephew Julez Smith also wore snakeskin shoes when walking in Jil Sander’s spring 2025 show, so maybe the Knowles family is somehow involved.

Parker’s python-printed leather knee-high boot is from Jimmy Choo’s recently released collection, which brings back footwear styles from 1997-2001, including two pairs worn by Carrie Bradshaw on “Sex and the City.” Sandra Choi of Jimmy Choo worked with fashion designer Connor Ives and fashion journalist and archivist Alexander Fury on the archival project.

To top it off, Parker’s costar Nicole Ari Parker had on snakeskin mule-bootie hybrid shoes at the same photo call.

Another celebrity who has shown love for the snakeskin trend this calendar year is Rihanna. She repeatedly wore Amina Muaddi’s Barbara boot while supporting her partner A$AP Rocky through his trial earlier in 2025. Released in 2024 as part of the brand’s 24/25 drop, the Barbara features a slender 105mm stiletto heel and a narrowly pointed toe. Like many snakeskin styles, it also showcases neutral earthy hues, making them a good complement to Rihanna’s green creased trousers and gray pinstriped top.

Gray gave a shout out to Muaddi’s work as well as a couple of other brands, commenting, “I love the way Amina Muaddi has been working with [snakeskin] recently (her boots in particular are incredible! Per Rihanna). And then Loewe have created some really interesting, less traditional, pieces. Last but not least, Larroudé’s mule is my favorite for summer.”

In April, Jordan was booked and busy promoting his latest film, “Sinners,” collaborating with stylist Jason Bolden along the way. For a press engagement in early April, he wore Second/Layer’s Charro Boot Rattlesnake set; the ankle-height shoes featured Italian calf embossed snake leather in a light, earthy colorway, showcasing pale beige and additional hues. He modeled the pair with a gray wool pinstriped button-down and pants from Burberry, showcasing the same mix of patterns as Rihanna before him.

Meanwhile, stylist Philippe Uter, who works with Meagan Good and Noah Schnapp, offered an overarching take on the relevance of snakeskin footwear, touching on the emotionality associated with wearing them: “Snakeskin shoes evoke feelings of empowerment, allure and sensuality, depending on the wearer. Making them not just a trend, but a bold and sexy reflection of personal identity.”
