Doja Cat‘s signature feline motif came to play once more at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday (May 5).

After channeling the late Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette for her debut at the 2023 Met Gala, Doja wore a Marc Jacobs pinstripe bodysuit with a velvet ocelot-print bustier design and dramatic shoulder pads on the wool jacket top, black tights and black leather Kiki boots.

“I just wanted to feel like a little gangsta, I just wanted to feel like the madam. And I feel like [Marc Jacobs] brought that, like the strong shape to the shoulder. All of the exaggerated shapes I feel like he’s the master of,” she told Vogue livestream co-hosts Teyana Taylor and Ego Nwodim. “I feel like I’ve just been inspired mostly by the ’80s a lot lately, so this was kind of what I wanted to incorporate.”

Jacobs said the vision for Doja’s look was “very, very clear” since his team received the mood boards for her upcoming fifth studio album from her team. Nwodim asked the 29-year-old star about what fans can expect from the project, titled Vie. “I’ve already teased like four songs…. With the campaign that we’re doing together, we put one of the singles behind the visual for it. And it’s called ‘Jealous Type.’ So if you watch that, it’s in there,” Doja said.

This year’s Met Gala celebrated the theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The official dress code is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the spring 2025 exhibition’s focus on menswear and is “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation,” according to Vogue.

Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton served as co-chairs, while LeBron James served as honorary chair. James announced on X he had to cancel his appearance due to a knee injury he sustained at the end of the season. Tyla, Doechii, André 3000, Usher, Janelle Monáe and more also served as members of the costume institute benefit host committee.
