Distressed by frequent power cuts, residents of an area in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district worshipped a newly installed power transformer and celebrated its arrival like a festival.

The unusual ritual was performed to pray for the long life of the transformer, which they hope will spare them from the frequent power outages in the Gandhi Nagar area.

The previous transformer in the area had been functioning well for years but broke down suddenly a few days back. Following this, the locality had been facing a severe electricity crisis. With temperatures soaring, the lack of power caused immense hardship for the residents.

After informing local MLA Narendra Singh Kushwaha about the issue, the residents soon received a new transformer installed by the electricity department. Grateful for the prompt response, locals came together to mark the installation with a community celebration.

They performed a special puja (worship) for the transformer, distributed sweets amongst themselves, and prayed for its longevity.

Residents said the festival-like celebration was necessary, as any future breakdown could cause serious trouble during the scorching summer.

“Earlier, people prayed for the long lives of humans. This is probably the first time we’re praying for the long life of a transformer,” a local resident said. The community hopes that this new transformer will run smoothly for many years, just like the previous one did.
