At least three people were killed and several others sustained injuries after a bridge collapsed in Russia’s Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, causing a traffic accident involving a passenger train. The regional governor, Alexander Bogomaz, confirmed the incident early Sunday via the Telegram messaging app, noting that the collapse occurred in the Vygonichskyi district near a federal highway.

Russian Telegram channels Baza and SHOT, known for sharing information from security and law enforcement sources, reported that the passenger train crashed into the collapsed bridge. According to RIA and TASS agencies, the train driver was killed in the derailment. Baza, citing preliminary information without evidence, suggested the bridge may have been blown up. Reuters has not independently verified these claims, and there was no immediate response from Ukraine.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than three years ago, the Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod regions have experienced ongoing cross-border shelling, drone strikes, and covert raids from Ukraine. Russia’s emergency ministry announced on Telegram that additional fire and rescue units were dispatched to assist those already working at the scene.
