Ryan Gosling is getting ready to host Saturday Night Live for the fifth time in the show’s latest promo.
Well, technically, the Project Hail Mary star’s Saturday appearance on the sketch comedy series will be his fourth — but he doesn’t acknowledge that until the end of the promo.
Entitled “Ryan Gosling Thinks He’s Joining SNL’s Five-Timers Club,” the actor sports a robe embroidered with the number five in the promo, as he walks around Rockefeller Plaza acting like he owns the place.
After lighting up a photo of Mikey Day, smoking a cigarette indoors and popping champagne on a fake horse, Day attempts to put Gosling in his place by reminding him how many times he’s actually hosted the series.
“Dude, what the hell are you doing?” he asks the Barbie actor, who replies, “Five-timers club, Michael.”
“This is your fourth time hosting,” Day clarifies, which leads Gosling to do a spit-take. The two then run through his various SNL appearances throughout the year.
“It’s just four,” Gosling pronounces. “I’m sure someone’s made this mistake before.” Day quips, “Never once!” (Watch Gosling’s full promo below.)
Saturday night will mark Gosling’s fourth time hosting; he made his debut on Dec. 5, 2015; his second appearance on Sept. 30, 2017; and his most recent hosting gig was on April 13, 2024. He made one additional cameo on April 6, 2024.
Gosling is currently on a press tour for Project Hail Mary, which releases on March 20. The film is an adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestselling sci-fi book, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
