Best Medicine – Doc Martin – Review : It’s Doctor Best

This was yet another incredible episode, every episode this season has been hit after hit which is rare for a show in its first season. This was the first time we got to really see why Martin is the way he is. I think it gave a lot more depth to Martin’s character and we also got to see him essentially rebelling against how his parents were.

I really loved that we got to meet Robert and that he was going through something too. I think it allowed for the storyline to be more interesting and allowed for Martin to also know Sarah a bit more.

Once again we got the magic formula of silliness and seriousness that I love about this show. I adore that Mark was part of a big storyline, and whether Martin wants to admit it or not he probably is Mark’s best friend. Mark just brings chaos every single episode and even when he is impaled he is absolutely hilarious. I genuinely couldn’t help laughing when Sally screamed so loud that Mark could hear it.

Martin’s parents are genuinely horrible for ninety percent of this episode but by the end you can really tell that they were both massively affected by the death of their daughter who we now know was called Rosemary.

That last scene where he put the post it note on the memory tree was so emotionally raw, I loved it. I think it was perfect that in that moment Martin was having his own moment whilst everyone else was having a pillowfight. I’m really looking forward to seeing Martin open up more about his grief because he clearly hasn’t ever been allowed to grieve.

The Martin and Louisa relationship is clearly growing stronger every episode and I am loving it. The closet was such a wholesome moment where they just held each other both struggling with their own upsetting situations but being there for each other no matter what was going on outside.

They were definitely going to kiss before the teenagers interrupted with kiss chants which was definitely annoying but I think it just means that when they eventually do get together it will be absolutely worth the wait.

Vannessa made my jaw drop when she called out Lousia for being in love with Martin. As much as Vannessa had been horrible the whole episode, I think it was definitely the right person to say that to Lousia. I’m not even sure if Lousia had admitted that fact to herself yet but after that conversation there was no way she could deny it.

I really felt for Elaine this episode especially with Vanessa’s ‘radical honesty’ which was essentially just complete rudeness. I hope she doesn’t let it affect what she does in the next few episodes negatively. I also noticed the side comment to Al about his grades being valid for five years. I wonder if we will see him wanting to pursue college or just something away from the family business.

I was such a fan of the scene between Sarah and Martin when she confessed to having an affair and that being the reason why Martin was stopped from seeing her when he was younger. We really saw Martin tear all his walls down and just want to be with the one family member he could count on. He even embraced the hug despite his words claiming otherwise.

I think this was the most progression we have had for all the characters in the show up to this point. I am such a fan of what this show has been doing each week and I can’t wait to see what else happens in the latter part of this season.
