You will get your chance: Rohit’s message to Samson before T20 World Cup goes viral

Rohit Sharma’s message to Sanju Samson ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup 2026 has gone viral after the Indian wicketkeeper won the game against the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1. Samson scored 97 off 50 balls and remained unbeaten as India won the match by five wickets to reach the semi-final of the tournament.

However, Samson didn’t have the best of times and was sitting on the bench from the first game. This is when he met Rohit ahead of the USA game. Rohit is the ICC ambassador for the T20 World Cup and he linked up with the Indian team. Then he told Samson not to get disheartened, and his chance would come.

“Don’t be disheartened. It is a long tournament. You’ll get your chance. The opportunity can come anytime,” said Rohit to Samson.

Samson then went on to play the Namibia game and came back into the fold for the Zimbabwe match, where he made a quick impact with the bat before his fine knock against the Windies.

HOW DID SAMSON REACT TO BEING ON BENCH?

Samson said that while he was out of the side, he just went back to the basics, switched off his phone, and stayed off of social media. The wicketkeeper said that he kept believing in himself and kept listening to the people close to him.

“To be honest, I worked with a lot of people and I respect the suggestions. There were valid points. But at the same time, I felt like I have scored three international hundreds with the same setup. So I respected the advice but wanted to come back to my basics and shot selection. I didn’t want to change too much because I have performed in this style. I kept believing in myself, switched off my phone and social media, listened to myself and my close people. Very happy with how I am feeling now,” said Samson.

India will face England in the semi-final on March 5 in Mumbai.
