Neil Sedaka’s early life and his massive net worth

Neil Sedaka was a famous singer-songwriter, who was behind some of the most hit songs, such as Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, Oh! Carol, Calendar Girl, Bad Blood, Stupid Cupid and Love Will Keep Us Together, among others. Born in 1939, he was a child prodigy in piano. He was born in Brooklyn and was brought up in Brighton Beach. From a young age, Neil was much into music, so much so that when he was an infant, he couldn’t even eat without the music on the radio, as he shared. When he was in second grade, his chorus teacher suggested that he should learn piano.

Well, he then auditioned for and got a scholarship at the Juilliard School of Music Preparatory Division for Children, where he was trained as a classical pianist. In 1952, when he was 13 years old, he met Howard Greenfield, who was 16 back then, and together they started songwriting, a collaboration that lasted for more than a decade. In 1955, with his classmates, Neil Sedaka formed a band called Linc-Tonkes. Sedaka eventually became a teen idol for the pre-rock ‘n’ roll era, producing some of the most famous songs, like Oh! Carol, Calendar Girl and Happy Birthday, Sweet Sixteen. His career spanned nearly 60 years, and as per a report by Celebrity Net Worth, his net worth was around USD 100 million.

In 1958, Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield signed a contract with Don Kirshner and Al Nevins at Aldon Music, and since then, they have been known as the creators of the OGs of Brill Building sound. Connie Francis was the one to cover a song of the duo, Stupid Cupid, which reached number 17 on the Billboard in 1958. A demo tape recording of Sedaka and Greenfield brought them an opportunity to record with RCA Victor. Between 1959 and 1963, the duo saw massive success, selling 40 million records.

The upbeat cover of their song, Love Will Keep Us Together even won a Grammy in 1975. Well, Neil had 9 songs in the Top 10 hits on Billboard Top 100 charts. In the 1960s, he focused on his family, raising his two children while maintaining his songwriting and collaboration work. In 1971, he moved to England with his family and began singing in clubs, eventually releasing three albums: Emergence, Solitaire, and The Tra-La Days Are Over.

The albums caught the attention of Elton John, who decided to promote Sedaka to his band, Rocket Record Company. With his next album and one of the best singles, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, he grabbed attention and created music history of its own. With continued success and Billboard records, in 1995, Sedaka returned to the classical music roots, releasing Classically Sedaka. He further released two albums, Brighton Beach Memories: Neil Sedaka Sings Yiddish in 2003, and The Music of My Life in 2009. Till 2023, he also continued with his U.S. and international tours. Apart from a lot of accolades and awards, he also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
