The latest council meeting (February 17) of Frisco, a Texas city, again turned into a charade of blaming India for the changing landscape of the city, with speakers calling out H-1Bs and Indian takeover. An Indian-origin speaker Vinny Patel stood up to the blatant racism and suggested that the council should only allow speakers who are from Frisco. “Several people expressed concerns about how much the city has changed over the last 10, 20 years. I want to acknowledge those concerns,” the woman said. “Frisco has changed the way they describe it. It’s no longer the small suburban town and change can be uncomfortable, especially for those who’ve seen it grow over time. I also understand there are worries about the rapid growth and about particular communities moving in large numbers. What I don’t fully understand is the expectation of policy changes based on who should live here,” Patel said. “As far as I know, there are no laws, no quotas about how many people from any one community can live in a city or neighborhood. And I believe that is intentional.”Patel said her request to the council would be only to allow verified Frisco residents to speak at the meeting. The suggestion came as anti-H-1B campaigners started storming the council meetings since the last one and targeted what they call the ‘Indian takeover’ of Frisco. At Tuesday’s meeting, a former Frisco resident claimed to expose a major real estate scam allegedly being done by H-1Bs in Texas. The speaker said that though she does not live in Frisco anymore, her children do and they are affected by the massive culture change. The speaker said she witnessed how one H-1B takes a house on rent, but on the moving date, a friend of that H-1B comes and moves in — without proper verification because the first H-1B underwent the verification process. Once an Indian comes into a rented apartment, they give advertisements on Facebook groups only meant for Indians and thus only Indians get apartments in Frisco.
