Nike SB is celebrating the 45th anniversary of a skateboarding institution by offering up a special-edition sneaker on pre-order.
The Thrasher x Nike SB Blazer Mid reverses the colorway of their previous collaboration on the sneaker from 20 years ago. Black suede dresses the majority of its upper, while cream leather is used for the Swoosh and heel, the latter of which bears embroidery of Thrasher’s famous logo. Cream rears its head again for the tongue tag, while a black midsole holds a gum outsole.
Made for its 25th anniversary in 2006, Thrasher’s original Blazer Mid is its only other SB sneaker to get a release. Images surfaced of a Lunar Gato collaboration in 2013, but it never wound up being released.
When that first Thrasher collaboration dropped, the Blazer had just be revamped for skateboarding by Nike SB the year prior, and Nike SB was still just four years into its existence. Skaters had already taken to the sneaker’s original design, and much like it did with the Dunk, Nike SB added additional padding around the ankle as well as a Zoom Air unit within the midsole.
An unworn pair of Thrasher’s initial SB Blazer sold on eBay last year for $220 — just under three times the original retail price of $75.
Nike SB recently added to its basketball-to-skateboarding lineage by introducing a retooled Air Jordan 1 Low that released in limited numbers during NBA All-Star Weekend.
The Thrasher x Nike SB Blazer Mid is now available for pre-order through Thrasher’s website, with deliveries to be made in June. Pricing is set at $110.
