Meghan Markle didn’t ditch heels during her pregnancies.
On the latest episode of her podcast “Confessions of a Female Founder,” the Duchess of Sussex spoke about all things stilettos with Spanx founder Sara Blakely, including wearing pumps when she was eight months pregnant with her son.
Markle, 43, said a friend recently recalled a photo of her rocking heels when she was “so pregnant with Archie” in 2019.
“I mean, I gained 65 pounds with both pregnancies,” Markle, who also shares three-year-old daughter Lilibet with husband Prince Harry, added. Still, Markle never abandoned her “five-inch pointy-toe stilettos.”
In complete shock, her aforementioned friend apparently told the mother of two, “You have the most enormous bump, and your tiny little ankles are bracing themselves in these high heels.”
Markle went on, explaining, “But all of my weight was in the front. So you’re just going, ‘How on earth am I not just tipping, you know, face planting?’”
Because she was a bit wobbly in the pumps, Markle said she was always “clinging very closely to” her husband, Prince Harry. “It was like, ‘Please don’t let me fall!’” she joked about the experience.
Blakely pushed the envelope with the debut of the Spanx Sneex, a sneaker-heel hybrid, last August.
“You created the antidote,” Markle applauded the founder for her invention. Blakely replied, “I went through tons of self-doubt, [thinking], should I launch this? Is it the weirdest thing ever?”
Meanwhile, Markle also teased a new venture for herself in a new interview with Fast Company, revealing that she’s interested in making clothing for her As Ever brand in the future.
“The category of fashion is something I will explore at a later date, because I do think that’s an interesting space for me,” she said.
