Royal Challengers Bengaluru talisman Virat Kohli once again displayed his class in a run chase, hitting yet another fifty in the Indian Premier League. Chasing 228 runs in their final group-stage match of the tournament, Kohli led from the front with a 27-ball fifty at the Ekana Stadium on May 27.

This was Kohli’s 62nd fifty in the IPL, surpassing David Warner’s long-standing record of 61 fifties and making the record his own. With this knock, Kohli also crossed the 600-run mark for the fifth time in IPL history, a feat unmatched by any other batter.

IPL: 600-plus aggregate in a single edition

    • 5 – Virat Kohli (2013, 2016, 2023, 2024, 2025)
    • 4 – KL Rahul (2018, 2020, 2021, 2022)
    • 3 – Chris Gayle (2011, 2012, 2013)
    • 3 – David Warner (2016, 2017, 2019)

Kohli’s innings was crucial for RCB, who were aiming to finish in the top two of the IPL 2025 points table. Securing a top-two finish would have given them an additional opportunity to reach the finals.

Kohli has had a stellar IPL 2025 season. Especially in away matches, he has been a pillar of consistency, anchoring run chases with composure and class. During the group stage, Kohli scored eight fifties — the highest by any batter this season.

However, on Tuesday, his innings was cut short shortly after reaching his milestone. He was dismissed by Avesh Khan, who caught him at long-off on the second ball of the 11th over.

Kohli was the fourth RCB batter to head back to the pavilion. Despite a sensational start to their 228-run chase against Rishabh Pant’s Lucknow Super Giants, RCB collapsed in the middle overs and failed to capitalise on the momentum.

Virat Kohli crosses 9000 T20 runs

Virat Kohli smashed several records on Tuesday while batting at the Ekana Stadium. He became the first player to score 9,000 T20 runs for a single franchise. Kohli, who has been with RCB since the inaugural IPL season in 2008, needed just 24 runs heading into the game and got there with ease as his side made a solid start in their pursuit of the 228-run target.

The 9,000-run tally includes 8,579 runs in the IPL and 424 in the now-defunct Champions League T20 (CLT20), all for RCB.
