A man from Kashmir was taken into custody after he allegedly attempted to offer namaz inside the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya, raising concerns over a possible security lapse, officials said.
According to sources, the individual, identified as Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Shopian district, entered the temple premises on Friday. After visiting the shrine, reportedly sat near the Sita Rasoi area, where he was allegedly preparing to offer namaz.
Security personnel stationed at the complex noticed his actions and promptly intervened. The man, who was dressed in traditional Kashmiri attire, was detained by temple security and later handed over to the local police for questioning.
Police officials said Ahmed Sheikh is currently being interrogated by investigating agencies to determine his intent and to ascertain how he managed to enter the high-security temple complex.
The incident occurred as the city was preparing for Makar Sankranti rituals next week, which are expected to draw massive footfall and witness grand celebrations.
