Two days after his dramatic expulsion from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and his own family, Tej Pratap Yadav on Tuesday took to social media — to express his elation over becoming ‘bade papa’ (elder uncle).

“By the infinite grace and blessings of Shri Banke Bihari Ji, I have been blessed with the honour of becoming a bade papa upon the arrival of a baby boy. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to younger brother Tejaswi and Raj Shri Yadav…My blessings and love to my nephew,” Tej Pratap said in a post on X.

The heartfelt post came a day after RJD chief Lalu Prasad, in a rare public rebuke, expelled Tej Pratap, his elder son, from the party and severed all familial ties, citing “irresponsible behaviour” and deviation from the values expected of a public figure.

Lalu Prasad admonished Tej Pratap for behaving in a manner “not in consonance with the values of my family” and declared that “he shall have no role, henceforth, in the party and the family. He is expelled from the party for six years”.

The fallout followed a social media post by Tej Pratap that said he was in a 12-year-long relationship with a woman, despite being married and his divorce case still pending in court. The post, later deleted, was blamed on a supposed hacking of his Facebook account.

On Tuesday, Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, announced the birth of his son on X with a photo and a cheerful message: “Good Morning! The wait is finally over! So grateful, blessed and pleased to announce the arrival of our little boy. Jai Hanuman!”

This is their second child. Tejashwi and Rajshree Yadav welcomed their first child, a daughter, in March 2023. The baby was born in a private hospital in Kolkata where Rajshree was admitted for the last few days. Lalu Prasad and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi also arrived at the Kolkata hospital to welcome the newborn.
