Kate Middleton Favors Roland Mouret for Latest Royal Engagement

Kate Middleton returned to her royal power suiting ways on Thursday, wearing a maroon Roland Mouret suit and other monochrome elements during a visit to Charing Cross Hospital in London with her husband Prince William.

For the special occasion, the Princess of Wales wore the stretch Cady single-breasted blazer and coordinated trousers by the London-based label. The blazer of Middleton’s look included sharp shoulders with sinuous lapels and angular pockets at the waist.

The trousers of the suit featured a high waistline and a wide-leg silhouette. Middleton coordinated her maroon suit with a Me + Em blouse. When it came to shoes, the British royal family member wore a pair of brown Gianvito Rossi pumps which, while deviating from the monochrome approach of Middleton’s apparel, certainly continued the subdued warm tones of her attire.

Finishing touches for Middleton’s look included a small DeMellier mocha suede and leather purse. As for accessories, the Princess of Wales wore a pair of earrings courtesy of Cartier.

Roland Mouret is a staple designer in Middleton’s royal wardrobe. The Princess of Wales has regularly styled monochrome looks from the London-established fashion brand, including a gray suited style she wore to the Future Workforce Summit in London in November.

That same month, Mouret stepped down from his namesake label to pursue new ventures, leaving Self-Portrait founder Han Chong as the sole creative director. Chong acquired Mouret’s intellectual property and assets through SP Collection back in 2022.

The rise in royal power suiting moments, from Kate Middleton to Queen Letizia of Spain, among other royals, coincides with an increased interest in women’s tailoring. “This renewed focus on women’s tailoring aligns with broader cultural shifts toward sustainability, individuality and the rejection of fast fashion,” Hannah Bond, 203-year-old bespoke tailor Norton & Sons womenswear representative, told WWD in August 2024.

“As more women ascend to leadership roles and seek professional attire that embodies confidence and style, the demand for high-quality, tailor-made clothing has grown.”
