Amid escalating tensions across the pacific, US President Donald Trump has called for a increase in America’s military spending, saying the defence budget for 2027 should be raised to $1.5 trillion in increasingly “troubled and dangerous times”.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed extended negotiations with lawmakers and senior officials. “After long and difficult negotiations with Senators, Congressmen, Secretaries, and other Political Representatives, I have determined that, for the Good of our Country, especially in these very troubled and dangerous times, our Military Budget for the year 2027 should not be $1 Trillion Dollars, but rather $1.5 Trillion Dollars,” he wrote.
Trump said the higher allocation would allow the United States to build a “Dream Military,” capable of deterring any adversary. The expanded budget, he claimed, would ensure the country remains safe and secure, regardless of foe.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
