Elle Fanning brought early 2000s glamour to the red carpet in a gold gown by Ralph Lauren for the 2026 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday in Santa Monica, Calif.
The “Sentimental Value” star, styled by Samantha McMillen, wore a dress from Ralph Lauren’s fall 2003 ready-to-wear collection. The gold sleeveless gown featured a plunging neckline with draped fabric at the base, a fitted silhouette and short, flowing train.

The glamorous look was designed with allover gold bugle beads in a shade of muted gold, giving the dress a chainmail-like material quality. With the gloss of camera lights, Fanning’s dress also possessed a visual liquid element.
The early 2000s design was accessorized by jewelry pieces courtesy of Cartier, including rings. Fanning serves as a global brand ambassador to the French maison, appearing as the face of Cartier’s Grain de Café collection in 2023.

When it came to glam, the Best Supporting Actress nominee turned to hairstylist Jenda Alcorn for her soft blond waves. Her makeup, featuring lined eyes and a neutral rosy lip, was curated by artist Erin Ayanian Monroe.
Throughout her “Sentimental Value” promotional and awards season tour, McMillen has styled Fanning in a variety of designer pieces that harken back to old school and early 2000s glamour. Prior to Sunday night’s Critics Choice Awards, Fanning hit the red carpet of the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards wearing an archival Nettie Rosenstein Couture dress that gave off distinct Grace Kelly vibes.
