Mukul Dev’s sudden passing left his colleagues, friends, family and fans in deep shock. He passed away on the night of May 23, 2025. However, the exact reason for his death is not yet known; his last rites were held in Delhi’s Dayanand Mukti Dham in Nizamuddin West, and his brother, Rahul Dev, performed the last rites for the shanti of his soul. As fans and families are mourning Mukul’s untimely death, his co-star, Vindu Dara Singh talked about his significant weight gain.
Vindu Dara Singh revealed Mukul Dev had gained weight
Bollywood actor, Vindu Dara Singh worked with Mukul Dev on the upcoming film Son Of Sardaar 2, which is set to be released in July 2025. The actor revealed, in an interview with the IANS, that Mukul had gained a lot of weight. Vindu further stated that it was Ajay Devgn, who had helped him with some exercises to get back to his fit-self, but by the end of the film, Mukul had re-gained his weight. Vindu said:
“He has done tremendous work in ‘Son of Sardar 2’. We shot with him for a month in August in Scotland. He had gained some weight, so Ajay Devgn helped him exercise. He became fit but ended up gaining the weight back after returning from the shoot. He was a very kind-hearted person.”
Mukul Dev’s brother, Rahul Dev’s statement after the actor’s passing
The moment news of Mukul Dev’s demise surfaced, his elder brother, Rahul Dev, immediately confirmed the same with an official statement. Taking to his Instagram handle, Rahul shared the heartwrenching news of his younger brother, Mukul Dev’s passing. Sharing the cause of death, Rahul stated that his brother passed away peacefully in his sleep. The statement can be read as:
“Our brother Mukul Dev passed away peacefully at New Delhi last night. He’s survived by his daughter Sia Dev. Missed by siblings Rashmi Kaushal, Rahul Dev and nephew Sidhant Dev. Cremation at 5 PM. Address: Dayanand Mukti Dham, H6OR & GF4, Nizamuddin West, Delhi-110013.”
For the unversed, Mukul Dev left for the heavenly abode at the age of only 54. According to reports, he wasn’t keeping well for quite some time. However, the cause of his death hasn’t been disclosed. Sources close to the family revealed that Mukul had been under medical care in the ICU for about 8 to 10 days.
It was Vindu Dara Singh who confirmed the heartbreaking news of Mukul’s sudden demise. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Vindu expressed his grief with a heartfelt goodbye note. He prayed for the shanti of Mukul’s soul and cherished the time he was able to spend with him. His tweet can be read as:
“Rest in peace, my brother #MukulDev! The time spent with you will always be cherished and #SonOfSardaar2 will be your swansong where you will spread joy and happiness to the viewers and make them fall down laughing!”

Mukul Dev started his acting journey with television as he appeared on the show, Mumkin in 1996. He has also worked in TV shows like Kasshish, Kumkum, and 21 Sarfarosh – Saragarhi 1897. However, he is known for his amazing work in Bollywood films such as Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son of Sardaar, R… Rajkumar, and Jai Ho. Also, it is worth mentioning that Mukul was the first host of an Indianised version of Fear Factor.
Mukul Dev is survived by a daughter, Sia Dev! The actor had parted ways with his ex-wife, Shilpa in 2005.
