A 59-year-old man died Saturday morning following an explosion aboard a boat docked on the Hudson River, The Associated Press reported, citing authorities.

The incident occurred around 10.30 am while the man was performing work that involved flames or sparks, the US Coast Guard reported on social media.

Another worker at the city-owned Hunts Point facility was injured in the blast and taken to the hospital, FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief David Simms said. A third worker refused medical attention.

Emergency responders arrived after receiving a 911 call and found the man unconscious in the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene, New York City police confirmed.

The man’s identity has not been released, and the cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

The explosion caused raw sewage to spread across the boat’s deck, prompting decontamination procedures for firefighters and other first responders, FDNY Deputy Chief Kevin Simms said.

Officials have not released the victim’s name.
