TikTok loves a styling mission — and Lululemon‘s 2-in-1 Dress has provided just that to the fashion set on the social media platform. The silk-blend modal skirt or strapless dress went viral this May, at first dividing the internet as to whether or not it is indeed fashionable, and worth the $148 price tag. But what started out as a debate about taste quickly transformed into a styling challenge, with social media users putting their own stamp on the minimal canvas  — and using shoes to showcase its versatility.

When Lululemon’s 2-in-1 dress started trending on TikTok, one user took a megaphone to the conversation, asking “What is going on with Lululemon’s new dress? I think I need someone to explain it to me,” in a video that has since amassed over 196,000 likes and over 2,800 comments as of Saturday, May 24.

Since then throngs of TikTok users have shared their stance on the drop waist tube top dress that transformers into a maxi skirt, in videos that put their styling chops on display. In one viral video, which has amassed over 14,000 likes since it was posted yesterday, a user models the ivory colorway as a strapless dress accessorized with layered Alhambra bracelets from Van Cleef & Arpels, a Louis Vuitton baguette bag and a pair of tonal quilted double strap Chanel mule sandals with a block heel. “I really like it,” she says, adding, “I can see myself throwing this on and running errands. I’m about to go get my nails done so I’m going to keep it on. I don’t know what all the hate is about guys.”

Mule sandals with a block heel are a popular styling accompaniment for the viral dress on TikTok, with another user putting together a maternity-friendly monochromatic white look consisting of the dress as a skirt, a crop top, and matching shoes. “The perfect summer dress and skirt in 1 #23weekspregnant,” reads the caption.

Meanwhile other TikTok users are leaning into the athleisure origins of the dress, which is cut in a “four-way stretch, sweat-wicking, quick-drying, and naturally breathable” material. Some have styled it with sneakers, including one user who paired the ivory colorway with butter yellow trainers.

Yet, others made a case for dressing up the 2-in-1 dress with either pointed toe flats — and wearing it as a pleated skirt with a sleeveless asymmetrically cut top — or with ankle boots as either a maxi skirt or a high-slit skirt, pinning up the side under a boxy top.

Clearly there’s a hunger for styling inspiration, as searches for the “Lululemon 2-in-1 maxi dress with shoes” are on the rise. As a description for it reads on Lululemon’s website, where it is currently sold out in most sizes across all colorways, “Voted most versatile.”
