England batter Harry Brook pulled off a stunner on Day 3 of the one-off Test match against Zimbabwe. Fielding at the slip cordon, Brook dismissed Wesley Madhevere off the bowling of captain Ben Stokes, resulting in the 5th dismissal in Zimbabwe’s second innings.

The catch left Stokes spellbound on Saturday and went viral all over the internet, as England prepared for a busy summer of cricket. The incident came in the 48th over of Zimbabwe’s second innings. Stokes bowled a heavy ball on the off-stump line against Madhevere, who was taken by surprise. The ball bounced more than the batter would have liked and ended up top-edging it.

As the ball prepared to fly over the second slip, Brook made a sharp jump and plucked the ball out of thin air. What was impressive was that he picked up the catch with his left hand and reacted with cat-like reflexes against a ball that was travelling rapidly.

A shocked Ben Stokes could not believe what he was seeing and even forgot to go and hug Brook, who had just taken one of the best catches of his life.

The slip cordon has seen some of the most stunning catches in recent years. Stokes himself has picked up some terrific catches over the years, with several of them coming in the slip cordon. In recent years, England batter Joe Root has also picked up some sharp chances. What puts Brook’s catch right up there with the rest was the speed with which Brook went up in the air to intercept the ball.

On Saturday, England bowled out Zimbabwe for 255 runs in the second innings. Shoaib Bashir picked up 6 wickets in the game, with Stokes, Josh Tongue and Gus Atkinson contributing with one each.

The performance helped England win their first Test of the summer by an innings and 45 runs. Earlier in the game, England had declared at 565/6, on the back of centuries from Zak Crawley (124), Ben Duckett (140), and Ollie Pope (171).

England bowlers dominated the Zimbabwe batters and bowled them out for 265 in the first innings and then for 255 runs after following on.
