Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao is enjoying the success of his latest film, Bhool Chuk Maaf. The romantic comedy, featuring Wamiqa Gabbi alongside him, premiered in theatres on May 23. Leading up to the release, Rajkummar participated in numerous interviews, sharing insights about his acting career. During one of these candid discussions as part of the film’s promotion, he also spoke about his experiences working with Kangana Ranaut.
Rajkummar Rao opens up on working with Kangana Ranaut in Queen; says, “She is immensely talented, and it was a lot of fun”
In a recent interview with Instant Bollywood, Rajkummar Rao was asked about his experience working with Kangana Ranaut in the 2013 comedy-adventure film Queen. He praised Kangana and reminisced about their time on set, saying, “It was fun, I think it was a lot of fun. She is, of course, undoubtedly one of the finest talents that we have in the country. Immensely talented, and it was a lot of fun.” Rajkummar Rao played the supporting role of Vijay in the beloved film, which starred Kangana Ranaut in the lead role.
The actor stated, “I think we had a great time shooting in Amsterdam, Paris and Delhi. And I think Queen will always be, of course, a masterclass for actors, in a way for filmmaking also, and then the storytelling, I think.”
When asked if he had anticipated Queen becoming such a cult classic while the film was being made, Rao explained that neither the filmmakers nor the cast ever expect such outcomes. He believes the focus should be on the entire filmmaking process rather than the final result. Drawing a parallel with Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree, Rao said in Hindi, “No one expects it. Just like Stree, it seemed like when we were making the first one, even then, we didn’t expect that it would be such a massive success. No one knows that. You just end up making a film thinking that I have done my best.”
He added, “Not every department can claim we’ve done our best. Now, every film has its own destiny. Let’s wait and see how the audience responds to it.”
In the same discussion, Rajkummar Rao also spoke about working with Janhvi Kapoor, praising her dedication to her craft, and shared his thoughts on several other co-actors as well.
On the work front, Rajkummar Rao made his acting debut with the 2010 film Love Sex Aur Dhokha, followed by several supporting roles in various movies. His career gained momentum with notable performances in Queen, Aligarh, and Bareilly Ki Barfi. Upcoming, he has a film titled Maalik lined up, which is set for theatrical release in 2025.
