A photo displayed by US President Donald Trump during his White House meeting with South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa, is from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and not South Africa. The footage, published on February 3, was shot following deadly battles with Congo’s Rwanda-backed M23 rebels.Since assuming office in January, beginning his second and final presidential term, the Republican has repeatedly accused South Africa of “genocide” of its white population.Meanwhile, it also turns out that Trump’s “ambush” Ramaphosa with a video of alleged burial sites of “thousands” of white South African farmers, in fact shows a memorial site. The footage is from a 2020 protest where crosses were placed along a rural road following the murder of a couple on their farm in Normandien, according to news agency AFP.Also Read | Watch: Karoline Leavitt spars with reporter over video of white South African farmers’ ‘burial sites’The murderers were convicted to life imprisonment in 2022.Also seen in the clip is a politician saying: “South Africans occupy land, that’s who we are.” “These are people that are officials,” Trump claimed. However, the person is not in the South African government. He is Julius Malema, leader of the radical left opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party. The EFF came fourth in last year’s elections with only 9.5 percent of the vote. It has never been in government.
