Amidst mounting speculation, composer Palaash Muchhal’s cousin Neeti Tak has urged the public not to make assumptions regarding his relationship with cricketer Smriti Mandhana. Neeti’s message comes at a time when online conjecture has escalated regarding the reasons behind the Palaash-Smriti wedding being postponed, although Palaash’s sister, singer Palak Muchhal, had earlier posted that the wedding has been put on hold owing to health issues pertaining to Smriti’s father.
Reports have said that Smriti’s father Shriniwas Mandhana has been released from hospital. Meanwhile, in a statement shared on her Instagram stories, Neeti wrote, “Palaash is going through a critical condition today. You should all judge Palaash as wrong without knowing the truth. Technology today has come much ahead of humans. That is why people should not judge Palaash in the face of rumours, pray for him. (sic)”
Palaash and Smriti’s wedding, originally scheduled for November 23, was put on hold after a sudden family medical emergency. The decision to call off the ceremony came just hours before it was set to begin. Both families confirmed that Smriti’s father, Shriniwas Mandhana, experienced heart attack-like symptoms and was rushed to a hospital in Sangli.
Following the wedding being put on hold, the removal of Smriti’s engagement announcement from Instagram caught the attention of social media users. The original video, which featured Smriti’s teammates and ended with her engagement ring reveal, was quietly deleted. Several teammates also removed the reel from their profiles. This activity fuelled further rumours about the couple and their relationship.
Reports that followed have indicated that Palaash experienced significant emotional distress. His mother stated that he was deeply affected by the situation as he had a close relationship with Mandhana’s father.
Palaash’s sister Palak issued a statement on Monday about the wedding being put on hold. She requested privacy for both families and said, “Due to Smriti’s father’s health, Smriti and Palaash’s wedding has been put on hold. We would request you all to respect the privacy of the families during this sensitive time.”
At present, both families are prioritising recovery and emotional stability before making further decisions about the wedding.
