Farah Khan may be one of Bollywood’s most successful choreographers and filmmakers, but her unexpected rise as a YouTuber has become one of the industry’s most heartwarming digital success stories. In just a year and a half, her food-and-fun vlogs featuring her longtime cook Dilip have garnered nearly 2.5 million subscribers, turning their effortless kitchen camaraderie into viral entertainment.

In a recent conversation with Soha Ali Khan on her YouTube channel, Farah shared how the series began, how Dilip unintentionally became a fan favourite, and how the platform has dramatically changed his life. She revealed that she initially turned to YouTube because she had some free time before beginning her next film. Her food reels were already doing well on Instagram, encouraging her to try long-form content.
However, after shooting the first vlog, she realised that cooking on camera while maintaining a lively monologue was more challenging than expected. That’s when she decided to bring Dilip on board. “I used to just tell him, ‘Tu yeh bol de.’ I would give him the punchline and it just kind of exploded,” Farah recalled. Their effortless rapport clicked instantly with viewers. “By the second vlog, we had our silver button.”
Farah revealed that while Dilip had always been paid well, his earnings and opportunities soared once he became part of the channel. “I send his kids to English medium school now. I put his one son through a culinary diploma course,” she shared. But with success came revelations especially about the heavy debt Dilip had taken over the years. “He had a lot of debt… One year has just gone in paying off that debt and telling him, ‘You can’t take loans on interest anymore because whatever I am giving you is going down a well.’ So I have cleared all his debts.”
Dilip is now building his own home, and Farah is helping him secure brand collaborations so much of the work “can be done for free.” She also expressed her love for the creative freedom YouTube offers, saying, “It’s my channel so I can do what I want,” adding with a laugh that she now enjoys “complete independence… and I am making more money than most of my films.”
