Web Series Review: DELHI CRIME SEASON 3 does justice to the show and works due to a gripping narrative

    Director: Tanuj Chopra

    Synopsis:
DELHI CRIME: SEASON 3 is the story of human trafficking. DSP Vartika Chaturvedi (Shefali Shah) has been transferred to Silchar, Assam. She gets a tip of an illegal consignment being transported across the state. The truck, containing the consignment, is nabbed by the police. Vartika is shocked as the truck consists of several girls who are being trafficked to Delhi. The arrested driver of the vehicle blurts out to the cops that another truck, also containing girls, has left for Delhi. In Delhi, ACP Neeti Singh (Rasika Dugal) is informed that a severely injured 2-year-old girl, Noor, has been admitted to AIIMS. A young lady, Khushi (Aditi Subedi), brings Noor to the hospital and then runs away. Neeti and her team soon learn that Khushi is a minor and in a relationship with a man named Rahul (Anshumaan Pushkar). Rahul also emerges as a suspect in the case of the trafficked girls. Realizing that the two cases are linked, Vartika returns to Delhi to find out where the other set of trafficked girls is holed up. The cops simply know that the mastermind behind it is a woman named Badi Didi (Huma Qureshi), but they are struggling to find out her name, location and profession. What happens next forms the rest of the series

Delhi Crime: Season 3 Story Review:
Tanuj Chopra, Mayank Tewari, Anu Singh Choudhary, Shubra Swarup, Apoorva Bakshi and Michael Hogan’s story is in sync with the theme of the show. Tanuj Chopra, Mayank Tewari, Anu Singh Choudhary, Shubra Swarup, Apoorva Bakshi and Michael Hogan’s screenplay is pacy. Something or the other is happening every moment and this keeps not just the characters but even the viewers on the edge. The writing does falter in some places, though. Anu Singh Choudhary’s dialogues are hard-hitting and conversational.

Tanuj Chopra’s direction is supreme. The makers take up a disturbing case and yet again, they handle it sensitively. The narrative is simple. The way the plot begins in Assam and with Baby Noor and the way it later connects to the Badi Didi case is praiseworthy. The modus operandi of Badi Didi and the manner in which she lures young girls is seen to be believed. Though the show is called DELHI CRIME, the story travels to various states this time and it adds to the entertainment value. The best is reserved for the finale and is nail-biting.

On the flipside, the show moves at a slow pace in some places initially. The entire angle of Rajesh Tailang coming face-to-face with Vijay (Sano Di Nesh) and getting his sketch made is a bit confusing. The makers should have explained better what went wrong. The casting of Khushi also raises questions, as she doesn’t look that young. Lastly, the Rohtak investigation track is captivating, but it’s strange that the cops broke open the door of the marriage bureau and yet, the makers don’t show Badi Didi reacting to it or talking about it. Agreed that the antagonist was busy supplying girls to Kelly Dorji and the stakes were high. However, she was close to blowing her cover completely and yet, she just doesn’t care about it.

    Delhi Crime: Season 3 Performances:
It’s a pleasure to watch Shefali Shah in this role. She owns it and gives it a lot of gravitas. Rasika Dugal, too, rocks the show. Her assertive stand while delegating, and the way she turns into the novice we saw in Season 1 in Vartika’s presence, are neatly balanced and handled by the actor. Huma Qureshi is outstanding as the antagonist. The viewers will be disgusted by her and that makes her performance a success. Sayani Gupta (Kusum) comparatively has less screen time but makes her presence felt. Mita Vashisht (Kalyani) steals the show. She’s there for just two episodes, but the way she essays her part is truly remarkable. Watch out for her in the interrogation and the court scene. Class act! Anshumaan Pushkar is quite good, Yukti Thareja (Simran Masih) is a great find while Rajesh Tailang (Bhupendra Singh) is lovely as always. Aditi Subedi looks older for her part but performance-wise, she is first-rate. Anuraag Arora (Jairaj) and Jaya Bhattacharya (Vimla) are dependable. Gopal Datt (Sudhir) is nice, but this time, he is hardly there. The same applies to Yashaswini R Dayama (Chandni). Sidharth Bhardwaj (Subhash Gupta), Namash Bhardwaj (Ashutosh), Denzil Smith (Vishal Chaturvedi) and Aakash Dahiya (Devinder) are fair. Kelly Dorji (John Gupta) is aptly cast. The others who do well are Sano Di Nesh, Celesti Bairagey (Sonam), Suman Patel (Shabnam) and Max Scheytt (London).

Delhi Crime: Season 3 music and other technical aspects:
DELHI CRIME: SEASON 3 is a song-less show. Ceiri Torjussen’s background score adds to the tension. Johan Aidt and Eric Wunder Lin’s cinematography is gritty. Sunil Rodrigues’s action and Akash Gautam’s production design are realistic. Kirti Kolwankar and Maria Tharakan’s costumes are appropriate for the various characters shown in the show. Antara Lahiri, Manas Mittal and Parikshit Jha’s editing is slick.

Delhi Crime: Season 3 Review Conclusion:
On the whole, DELHI CRIME: SEASON 3 does justice to the theme of the show and works due to its gripping narrative, sensitive treatment and powerhouse performances. Despite a few rough edges, it remains a hard-hitting, immersive season and further consolidates the franchise’s reputation as one of India’s finest crime dramas.
