Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has opened up about the early challenges in her marriage with filmmaker Shirish Kunder, sharing that the two often fought because he felt uncomfortable accompanying her to social gatherings.
Speaking on her close friend Sania MirzaтАЩs podcast Serving It Up With Sania, Farah shared that people would frequently ignore her husband at events, focusing only on her because of her higher visibility and success in the film industry.
Reflecting on their initial years together, Farah said, тАЬNot just the industry, the world is full of a*****, so they will always hone in on the person who is more successful at that point, so they will only talk to me and ignore my husband, and I didnтАЩt like that, and he didnтАЩt either. So after a point, we came to an agreement that if you are uncomfortable coming out with this set of people, then donтАЩt come. I want him to be happy and at peace.тАЭ
Farah explained that the couple had тАЬa lot of fights initiallyтАЭ because she would insist that Shirish accompany her to events, despite his discomfort. Over time, they learned to respect each otherтАЩs boundaries and focus on their happiness rather than public appearances.
Talking about her choice to keep her personal life private, Farah said, тАЬWe know we are secure in our marriage and we donтАЩt need to hold hands on the red carpet. Sometimes, I feel that the more people are holding hands on the red carpet, something is brewing.тАЭ
Farah and Shirish first met in the early 2000s when he edited her directorial debut ‘Main Hoon Na’. The couple married in 2004 and welcomed triplets – Diva, Anya, and Czar – in 2008. They have collaborated on several projects, including ‘Jaan-E-Mann’, ‘Om Shanti Om’, and ‘Tees Maar Khan’.
Farah, who last directed ‘Happy New Year’ in 2014, has since become a popular television personality and digital creator. She hosted ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ this year and continues to entertain audiences through her hit YouTube channel, where she shares celebrity cooking videos alongside her cook, Dilip.
