The trailer of Mastiii 4, starring Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani, Ruhii Singh, Shreya Sharma, Elnaaz Norouzi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shaad Randhawa, Nishant Singh Malkani, Arshad Warsi, Nargis Fakhri and Natalia Janoszek, dropped on November 4 and as expected, it has received polarized reactions. While some found it entertaining, a section of the audience claimed it was vulgar and crass. Its director, Milap Zaveri, has taken these comments in his stride. He even responded to those who lashed out at the trailer. A user who wondered how the film’s team interacted with females in their houses after working on films like Mastiii 4 received a reply from Milap. He said, “Mam pls do see the film. You may be pleasantly surprised. Women have a v strong role and POV”.

Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Milap Zaveri on the negative feedback surrounding Mastiii 4 and whether he expected such comments. He said, “You know me. I always react humbly and with respect. I think it’s a genre that always gets this kind of extreme reaction. It’s nothing new. The audience that has loved Masti, Grand Masti and Kyaa Kool Hain Hum are loving the trailer of Mastiii 4 and they would hopefully love the film too. The film is made for an audience that has loved these kinds of films before.”
He added, “So, obviously, certain intellectuals and certain sections will obviously lash out and claim that it’s offensive and vulgar. But they are entitled to their opinion and I respect that. It is made solely for the audience who has loved this genre and who loved the earlier films in this space.”
An advantage for Mastiii 4 is that it’s been ages since we have seen an adult comedy in theatres. For the younger generation, who were too young or not born during the release of the earlier Masti films, this will be a novel experience to watch it in cinemas and enjoy the film amid collective laughter. This writer vividly remembers college pals, in groups of 10 or even 20, flocking to the cinemas to watch Masti 2 (2013).
Does Milap Zaveri expect a repeat of that scenario? He replied, “I hope so. As you rightly said, a film of this genre has not been made for a long time. Today’s youth and mass audience have not seen such a film in a theatre. They’ll enjoy this kind of humour more. Hence, I am very hopeful that the target audience comes in huge numbers on November 21.”
