In a shocking incident from Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh, a woman allegedly got her own son killed for insurance money and to continue an illicit relationship. The crime has left the district and the local community in disbelief.
Police said Mamta Singh, a resident of Angadpur, conspired to kill her 25-year-old son Pradeep Singh with the help of her lover Mayank Katiyar and his brother Rishi.
After her husband’s death, Mamta’s closeness with Mayank increased. Pradeep strongly objected to the relationship, often urging his mother to end it. But Mamta, determined to live with her lover, allegedly decided to eliminate her son.
Investigations later revealed that Mamta had taken four life insurance policies in her son’s name, worth over Rs 1 crore in total. Police suspect she planned the murder to claim the insurance payout.
MURDER STAGED AS ACCIDENT
According to officials, on the day of the incident, Mamta and her associates called Pradeep home on the pretext of having dinner. On his way back, Mayank and Rishi allegedly attacked him with a hammer, killing him on the spot. The body was dumped near a highway to make it look like an accident.
The post-mortem report, however, revealed multiple fractures and severe head injuries, confirming that Pradeep was beaten to death.
INVESTIGATION AND ARRESTS
Based on mobile location data, police found that Mamta and her lover were at the same location at the time of the crime.
During interrogation, Mayank reportedly confessed that Mamta had planned the killing, promising to share the insurance money once it was received.
Police later arrested Mayank, while Rishi Katiyar was caught during an encounter and injured by a bullet. The hammer used in the murder, a country-made pistol and the car involved in the crime were recovered.
However, Mamta Singh is still absconding, and several police teams are searching for her.
The murder has left the entire village in disbelief. Locals say Pradeep was a polite young man who cared deeply for his mother and only wanted her to end her relationship with Mayank.
His grandfather, Jagdish Narayan, broke down while recalling the incident, saying the family never imagined Mamta could go to such lengths for money.
Police officials said that once Mamta is arrested, further details about how she planned the murder and processed the insurance claims will be investigated.
