Paresh Rawal Responds To ‘The Taj Story’ Backlash: ‘There’s Nothing Hanky-Panky Or Controversial’

Paresh Rawal has finally responded to the backlash surrounding his upcoming film, The Taj Story, which is already in the spotlight even before its release. The actor addressed the criticism in a recent interview, clarifying that neither he nor the makers intended to create any religious divide through the show. He also talked about the PIL filed against the film.

    Controversy behind The Taj Story

The controversy began shortly after the teaser launch of The Taj Story on October 9, 2025. The historical drama, which explores the Mughal Empire and the life of Emperor Shah Jahan, received sharp criticism from a section of the audience, particularly for its portrayal of religious undertones and reinterpretation of historical events. Some viewers accused the creators of trying to ‘distort history’ or ‘push an agenda’ by provocatively portraying Hindu-Muslim relations in a manner.

Paresh Rawal talked about The Taj Story

Speaking to NDTV, Paresh candidly addressed these concerns, saying, “We never wanted to create any Hindu-Muslim issue. That was never the intention. He further said, “Tushar came with amazing research, and there is nothing hanky-panky in it.” Paresh said:

“His sources were clearly mentioned, and I even checked with friends who confirmed the facts. From the very beginning, we made sure there would be no Hindu-Muslim jingoism in this film.”

Paresh Rawal also shared one of the dialogues of the film where a character says, “Brother, it’s you journalists who make everything about Hindu and Muslim. There’s no HinduMuslim conflict here. This is about shared history.’” He ended by saying:

“When someone says, ‘What should we do with this?’  Another says, ‘Break it.’  Then someone answers, “No, brother, we’re not the ones who destroy.  It should not sustain any damage.  Every problem cannot be handled by breaking or destroying something.  Acceptance may be a powerful force at times.”

PIL filed against The Taj Story in the Delhi High Court

A PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court against Paresh Rawal’s forthcoming film The Taj Story. The PIL objects to a poster depicting a statue of Lord Shiva emerging from the dome of the Taj Mahal. Advocate Shakeel Abbas has filed a plea, claiming the movie contains ‘fabricated and provocative content.’ The petitioner had requested an immediate hearing and demanded that the court review the film’s certification granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). On October 29, 2025, the court declined the request for an urgent hearing, stating the matter will be heard in due course — effectively allowing the film’s release to proceed for now. The dismissal of the urgent plea offers temporary relief to the filmmakers as they prepare for the film’s theatrical debut on October 1, 2025.
