In a recent The Social Manifest podcast, actor Kubbra Sait spoke about a lesser-known part of her past — her experience with childhood bullying. Long before gaining recognition for her role in Sacred Games, she faced teasing and was often singled out for things like her name, hair, and eye colour.

“I was bullied for my name, I was bullied for my hair, I was bullied for the colour of my eyes,” she said, her voice both steady and introspective. “And now I see them as my plus points. None of it is something I wish I didn’t have. But as a child, I didn’t know how to deal with it. I felt very isolated. I felt cut off from the world.”
The bullying went beyond typical schoolyard teasing and affected Kubbra’s sense of self. As she got older, the comments became harsher, and the feeling of isolation grew. A turning point came when, at 13, she joined a personality development program, followed by a self-esteem course — an uncommon step at the time, but one that began to help her rebuild confidence.
“Imagine going through that at 13… and then taking 20 more years to truly integrate that learning into your life,” she reflected. “But that’s what happened. It stayed with me. It shaped me.”
The turning point came through the world of theatre. “I went so deep inside myself, I discovered something beautiful. I found theatre. I found comfort in crowds. I found confidence in my skin.” What had once made her feel ‘odd’ became a source of power. What once silenced her became her voice.
Today, Kubbra is not just a performer known for breaking the mold, she is also an advocate for authenticity. By sharing her story, she is helping others navigate their own. Her message is simple, yet profound: the very things you are ridiculed for may someday become your greatest strengths.
