Akshay Kumar recently spoke candidly about his outlook on wealth and the lessons he hopes to pass on to his daughter, Nitara. At a press event for a reality show, Kumar underscored that while earning money is necessary, mental peace holds far greater value.
Akshay Kumar opens up on teaching his children about money; says, “What’s more important than money is peace of mind”
He explained, “Everybody knows its importance. But what’s more important than money is peace of mind. That’s what I always go for more than money. Yes, I work hard, I work for money, but if I have to choose between the two, I’ll always choose peace of mind over money.” He further remarked, “I don’t think I need to. No one really needs to explain it to anyone. Everyone uses their own mind and sees it for what it is. Everyone sitting here, we’re all here to earn money. Even you, the one asking me this question, you’re doing your work, managing so many things and you’re doing for money, not just for fun. So, that’s nothing unusual. I don’t have to teach anybody about money.”
While he believes in leading by example rather than lecturing, Kumar’s priority is clear inner calm over financial stakes. Kumar also spoke about his son Aarav, revealing that the 23-year-old is pursuing fashion design and has no ambitions of entering the film industry or taking over his father’s production banner. “He doesn’t want to come in films. He has told me straight, ‘Dad mere ko nahin aana (Dad I don’t want to come). I tell him to take the reins of my production company but he doesn’t want to do it. He wants to remain in fashion. He is learning fashion at the moment and he’s happy in that life.” Kumar added, “I want him to come in films but I am also happy with his decision.”
On his parenting style, he shared, “I am not strict that job belongs to my wife. She is very serious kind and she keeps us three kids me, Nitara and Aarav in line. I am more like a friend to my son. He is 23 years old and he has grown-up very fast … he has no bad habits. He is more like Twinkle because she also studies a lot.”
Through these remarks, Akshay Kumar presents a philosophy that wealth is secondary to well-being, and he seems committed to nurturing autonomy in his children’s life choices.
