NEW DELHI: Kyiv’s air force claimed to have shot down 35 out of 39 Russian drones in various parts of Ukraine, including the capital region, on Sunday.
“As a result of combat operations, 35 ‘Shaheds’ were shot down” over 10 regions across central and southern Ukraine, the air force said on social media.
The Ukrainian air force said the downing of the drones occurred in central regions such as Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Dnipropetrovsk, as well as in southern regions like Odesa, Kherson, and Mykolaiv, while missile strikes targeted the eastern Kharkiv and Donetsk region which resulted in the injury of at least nine individuals.
Moreover, drone attacks were carried out in the western regions of Zhytomyr and Khmelnytsky. In the embattled Donetsk region, officials said that a Russian missile strike had struck the town of Myrnograd.
Vadym Filashkin, the head of the Donetsk region, shared on social media that “Russians shelled Myrnograd with 3 S-300 missiles: at least 9 people were wounded, including 1 teenager.”
He further added that “nine high-rise buildings” were damaged. Images released by officials showed a residential building with blackened walls, along with destroyed vehicles and debris strewn outside.
Moving to the northeastern region of Kharkiv, local governor Oleg Synegubov said a recreation camp was on fire after shelling in the town of Bogodukhiv, north of the main city of Kharkiv and close to the Russian border.
Synegubov shared photos of wooden houses engulfed in flames and confirmed that there were no casualties.
