The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has announced an extension for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2026 registration, now open until October 20, 2025. This exam is the entry point for candidates seeking admission to MSc and MS programmes across various IITs. Earlier, the last date to register was October 12, 2025.
The JAM 2026 exam is scheduled for February 15, 2026, and will be held in multiple sessions covering seven subjects. Around 3,000 seats are up for grabs across 89 postgraduate programs in 22 IITs, making it a key opportunity for students aiming for advanced studies in science and technology. REGISTRATION PROCESS AND IMPORTANT DATES
Aspirants can complete their JAM 2026 registration through the JOAPS portal by October 20, 2025, 11:59 pmIST. The process includes creating an account, filling in personal and academic details, uploading scanned documents, selecting exam papers and cities, paying the application fee, and submitting the application. Candidates are allowed to choose up to two test papers and three preferred exam cities.

The JAM exam will be conducted in forenoon and afternoon sessions on February 15, 2026. The subjects offered are:
SEATS AND COUNSELLING
A total of 3,000 seats will be available across 22 IITs. After the exam, successful candidates will go through counselling, with seat allocation based on rank, course preference, and availability. Notably, IIT Kanpur has added three new programs: an integrated PhD in Sustainable Energy Engineering, MSc in Economics, and an MSc-PhD dual degree in Chemistry.
