Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ is creating history at the box office. Even after 10 days of release, the film’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down. The folklore epic has now become the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, with its total collection standing at a massive Rs 396.65 crore.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 37 crore on Day 10, witnessing a strong weekend jump that has helped it surpass big releases like ‘Coolie’, ‘Saiyaara’, and ‘War 2’.
The film’s box office journey has been remarkable, marked by strong weekday holds and massive weekend jumps. ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ opened with an impressive Rs 61.85 crore on Day 1 and maintained its momentum through the first weekend, earning Rs 45.4 crore and Rs 55 crore on Days 2 and 3, respectively.
The film peaked on Day 4 with Rs 63 crore before settling into steady weekday numbers – Rs 31 crore on Day 5 and Rs 34.25 crore on Day 6. A slight dip followed as collections dropped to the Rs 20 crore range on Days 7, 8, and 9. However, the film bounced back on Day 10 with Rs 37 crore, driven by strong weekend footfall and positive word-of-mouth, taking its total to a massive Rs 396.65 crore.
After a brief slowdown between days 7 and 9, the weekend surge brought the film back into the spotlight. With this, ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ has overtaken major box office contenders and is now trailing only behind ‘Chhaava’ in domestic earnings. However, it still remains slightly behind ‘Saiyaara’ and ‘Chhaava’ in global collections.
Despite clashing with ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, Shetty’s film has emerged as the clear winner – the latter has so far collected only Rs 43.35 crore domestically.
Directed by Rishab Shetty, who also stars in the film alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram, ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ serves as a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster ‘Kantara’. The story dives deep into the ancient origins of the Bhoota Kola ritual, expanding the rich mythology and spiritual lore that captivated audiences in the original.
The film’s stunning visuals, authentic storytelling, and powerful performances have earned widespread praise from both critics and audiences. Not just that, several notable names from the industry, including Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Ram Gopal Varma, Anupam Kher, and even cricketer KL Rahul and actor Suniel Shetty, have hailed the movie as a “cinematic masterpiece.”
With its phenomenal run and growing word-of-mouth, ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ now looks set to cross the Rs 400 crore mark.
