A woman in Jharkhand’s Chanho village was arrested along with her accomplices for allegedly killing her husband and burying his body in a well to cover up the crime, officials said. The case, which had remained unsolved for seven months, was cracked after police zeroed in on the victim’s second wife, Champa Oraon.

According to police, Rambali Yadav was reported missing months ago. As the investigation progressed, Champa emerged as the prime suspect and officials kept her under discreet surveillance before detaining her and her relative Vishnu Oraon.

During questioning, both confessed to committing the crime.

Rambali had sold a plot of land but sent the money to his first wife in Varanasi. The dispute over this money escalated, leading Champa to plot the killing. She roped in Vishnu Oraon, Vikas Oraon, Ashish Kumar and two minors to execute the plan.

The group allegedly shot Rambali, dumped his body in a well, and then used a JCB machine to fill it with soil to destroy evidence. Acting on a tip, police deployed a magistrate and dug up the well, recovering the body.

Champa and three others have been arrested, while the minors have been detained. Police have also recovered the weapon used in the murder. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
