Julia Fox is wearing one of my favorite designers, and I almost tripped running to my computer to talk about it.
Julia attended the New York City Ballet’s annual Fall Fashion Gala, which featured the premiere of dancer and choreographer Jamar Roberts’s “Foreseeable Future,” accompanied by optical illusion costumes designed by Iris.
The event was hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker, who wore a winged, Black Swan-inspired look from the designer’s 2025 collection.
It’s almost every year that I find an opportunity to talk about what Julia’s wearing, so when I saw her wearing Iris’s sculptural black-and-white “Eclipse” dress from the 2021 collection, I lost it.
What’s so fascinating about this design is that the tiny, hand-cut, and hand-stitched shapes layered together make Julia look like she was plucked right out of a page of my favorite childhood coloring books.
Here’s a full-body look at the dress:
For her hair, Julia wore an on-theme ballet-like bun with a blend of blonde and purple to match her eyeshadow.
On her feet, she wore a chartreuse pointed-toe heel.
Iris has long been a favorite of mine. Julia’s look takes me back to one of my other favorite memories — the 2021 Met Gala, where the designer was in her bag, to say the least.
The 2021 Met Gala was the year Winnie Harlow, Tessa Thompson, and Hailee Steinfeld wore these intricate designs:
Gabrielle Union also wore a design that shares similarities with Julia’s dress, with the same spherical details.
And Grimes wore this infamous dress, which I include in any and every conversation about the Canadian singer-songwriter. She had a sword, y’all.
What do you think about Julia Fox’s 3D coloring book dress? Would you wear an Iris van Herpen dress? If so, where?
