A 22-year-old BTech student, who is the brother-in-law of a senior police officer in Madhya Pradesh, died after allegedly being chased and beaten up by two police constables in Bhopal. A video went viral, where it was seen that one policeman held the victim, Udit Gaayke, who was bare-chested while the other kept on hitting him with a stick.

Udit was returning late at night after partying with his friends when the incident occurred. Udit’s friends claimed that Gaayke was found with bruises and a torn shirt.

Constables Santosh Bamaniya and Saurabh Arya have been suspended in this connection, Bhopal Zone 2 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vivek Singh said.

The victim was taken to the hospital after being attacked by the police personnel, and he was declared brought dead. According to his friends, the accused constables asked for a bribe from the victim to stop assaulting him.

While investigating the case, police said the victim’s parents work in Bhopal, while his brother-in-law is the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Balaghat district.

DCP Singh told the media that the police have registered a case under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita upon the arrival of the post-mortem report.

He has also assured that the accused constables, who are presently on the run, will be arrested soon.
